SPECIAL GIVING OPPORTUNITY

It was an incredibly moving experience. My dear friend and director of the Beautiful Gate Center took me to the place where he began his ministry. This was the very spot where he stood every Sunday and preached to the homeless of Accra. They live and sleep on the streets in a huge market area of the city. In the daytime people are selling their goods, and at night the homeless gather to sleep on the sidewalks.
The people called out Ben’s name as he and I walked through the streets. They were excited to see him. The experience of meeting these beautiful people was almost more than I could handle. Unpaved roads are lined on either side with streams of water and human waste. I couldn’t believe how many people lived there; the numbers were staggering. Many of the people are physically challenged. They beg in the day and gather on the sidewalks at night. In an attempt to garner some privacy many string up canvas or some type of cloth between poles to create a make shift wall.
Ben is a man of amazing vision. He comes almost every Sunday to take a few back to the Center for worship services and a meal. His hope is to purchase a 15-passenger van so that he can take more every Sunday to hear the Word and enjoy a meal. It is undoubtedly a ministry that pleases our Lord Jesus and one we hope to help fulfill.
We need approximately $40,000 to purchase a new Toyota 15-passenger “Hiace” Van. Ben will use the van for daily transportation, to bring the homeless in for services and meals, and to transport the orphans living at the Center as needed.
The need is relatively urgent. Several years back we purchased for Ben an older model Volkswagon Passat. It has been a faithful mode of transportation, but appears to be on its last leg.
